X≠Y Translation Workshop
The USC Cebuano Studies Center in cooperation with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. under the sponsorship of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts conducted the X ≠ Y Translation Workshop 2012 at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral Museum on August 20-21, 2012.
The fellows from Cebu were Hannah Marie Aranas, Manuel Avenido, Kei Valmoria-Bughaw, Althea Capacio, Joanalyn Gabales, Dave John Golloso, Trizer Dale Mansueto, Rowanne Marie Maxilom, Ma. Russel Pielago, and Cindy Velasquez. Fellows from the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao were Harold Mercurio (Tacloban), Jhonil Bajado (Eastern Samar), Voltaire Oyzon (Leyte), Jethol Paanod (Biliran), Rene Ponte (Bohol), Sonia SyGaco (Negros Oriental), Denver Torres (Cagayan de Oro) and, Noel Tuazon (Bohol).
Teacher-participants USC and USJR joined the workshop on the second day. From USC were Darwin Goron, Julemie Palma, Joanne Tan, Ronnie Andales, Rabi Grace Quimco, Cristie Ann Delfin, Sophia Pintor, and Fely Latras. Dr. Glenn Pajares from USJR also joined the group.
The workshop panelists were Dr. Erlinda Kintanar Alburo, Ms. Merlie M. Alunan, and Mr. John Iremil Teodoro. Dr. Alburo discussed the mechanics of literary translation. Prof. Alunan talked about translating Adonis Durado’s poetry while Prof. Teodoro focused on gender and translation.
Dr. Hope Sabanpan-Yu directed the workshop and delivered the training modules on translation with Raphael Dean Polinar as workshop secretariat.
